KV Academy at M.S.A.D. 54 Adult & Community Education

 

KV Academy is a collaboration between KVCC and area adult education programs.

 

Improve your educational skills and enhance your career by getting a solid academic foundation for a successful college experience. KV Academy provides developmental and college prerequisite courses. Classes are for high school graduates or GED recipients who intend to apply to post-secondary institutions. KV Academy courses are available at participating adult education programs in Central Maine. Courses available in the Skowhegan area are listed here.

 

Registration is free for those students who enroll in KV Academy. Students may be required to pay a book deposit or lab fee.

Number Skills

If you need to take a basic math class to prepare for college, then this course is for you. You will master basic arithmetic of whole numbers as well as fractions, decimals, percents, ratio and proportion, integers, and simple geometry. This class is especially designed for people who received a score of less than 28 on the Accuplacer Arithmetic Test.

Algebra I

Are you preparing to take a college algebra course? Avoid taking developmental algebra at the college level. Algebra I will develop your basic understanding of how to use algebraic terms and equations in solving problems. This course is designed especially for people who scored less than 63 on the Accuplacer Algebra Skills Placement Test.

Writing Skills

Are you getting ready for college? If you are like many other adults going to college, you may need to brush up on your writing skills. This class is especially designed for people who score below 50 on the Accuplacer Sentence Skills class. Avoid taking a developmental writing class at college. This course will teach you the standards of English usage with their applications in writing sentences, paragraphs, and simple essays.

Biology w/Lab

Biology is a study of animal and plant systems.  Learn the structure and functions of cells, molecules, energy, and heredity. Interaction of the living and nonliving environments is considered together with ecology, genetics, and evolution.  This course can be taken for high school diploma credit and meets the prerequisite credit for KVCC and other colleges.

ITV

 

University College is part of the University of Maine System (UMS) that provides statewide access to courses and degrees for those who cannot pursue studies on a UMS campus.  ITV and online classes are available at over 75 sites around the state in high schools, adult education centers, community centers, and other locations.  Coordinated by the local University College Center, staff at sites welcome students, distribute and collect course materials, proctor exams, and monitor classroom equipment.
