MSAD 54 Skowhegan Area Classes

English for Speakers of Other Languages    

Do you or someone you know speak little or no English?  Join this friendly class where you learn to express yourself more fluently and clearly.  Both day and evening classes are available.  Class activities include reading, writing, speaking, listening and citizenship preparation upon request.  Preregister by calling 474-7553 for an appointment.

French, Conversational   

The conversational French class is designed to introduce the beginner to the French language.  Emphasis is placed upon listening to spoken French and developing speaking skills.

Writing Mystery and Crime Fiction    

Have you ever wanted to write a classic whodunit?  How about a hard-boiled detective story?  In this class, we will learn how to use to genre conventions while avoiding clichés.  Special attention will be paid to character, plotting and research.  Students will have weekly writing exercises and reading assignments, while working on a short story or novel chapter to workshop.  Please note that this is an intermediate-level course.  All students should be comfortable with the fundamentals of grammar and the elements of craft, and be a reader of mystery/crime fiction.

MSAD 59 Madison Area Classes

American Sign Language, Beginners

American Sign Language for beginners is an introductory course to the beautiful language of the Deaf.  A basic course in ASL, providing a core vocabulary of approximately 100 signs, manual alphabet and numbers 1-100.  Emphasis will be placed on expressive and receptive skills.  Come prepared to participate in a fun and exciting class!  If learning by doing is what you like best, then this class is for you.

American Sign Language, Intermediate

A continuation of the ASL beginner class, ASL Intermediate students will continue building their expressive signing skills and vocabulary.  Story telling, vocabulary building as well as more expressive and receptive class activities will be emphasized.  Students will continue learning about Deaf culture and the various modalities of deaf education.  One half of the class will be all signing voice off as students gain confidence and comfort with expressive skills.  Come sign with us and enter the wonderful world of American Sign Language and the Deaf Community.
