High School Diploma
Adults can complete their high school education and earn a Skowhegan Area High School diploma. This program offers many different courses. If the Director approves, students can earn credits for life experiences such as military experience, job training, and volunteer work. There is no charge for students who are in the high school diploma program
GED stands for Tests of General Educational Development. The test consists of five tests in the areas of reading, math, social studies, science, and writing. To participate in the GED program, students must meet state and local school district guidelines. These guidelines include a set of pre-tests to see if youíre ready for the official GED Test. There is no charge for students in the GED Program. The diploma received for passing the test is widely recognized by colleges, training schools and employers as equivalent to a high school diploma. Adult Basic Education
Adult Basic Education (ABE) gives adults the chance to learn and improve their reading, writing, and math. Small class instruction and individual attention helps students reach their goals.
Beginning Reading
A teacher with special training in reading meets privately for ONE-ON-ONE instruction in beginning reading. If you know someone who needs help learning to read, please call the Adult Education office.
Enrichment
Enrichment classes provide fun, lifelong learning, and self- development. From arts and crafts to health and family programs, enrichment classes help each student achieve personal goals.
College and Careers
Students planning to attend college may take prerequisite courses such as Algebra, Biology, and Chemistry. KV Academy classes (Numbers Skills, Writing Skills, Introduction to Computers) are available for people who need to brush up before taking college-level classes.
