Medieval Times
Norridgewock Central Grade School
Mrs. Davis, 2nd grade class
F. Chin, art teacher

I ask my class about the medieval times. Myth and legends of knights, dragons, and castles was an easy motivator.  The class quickly came up with many “brain storming” ideas.   The art process we used is “marbleizing” our drawings.  In a tub of water, this is where water and oil colors try to mix.  Of course, the oil floats to the top and unable to mix with water.  The results are an array of “swirl” like colors, a perfect background setting for the drawings.  Students use gel markers and black permanent markers to create their drawings and to act as a “stop” to the marbleizing.  Areas that are not colored in would be receptive to the marbleizing as demonstrated here with the students interpretation of the “Medieval Times”.
