We went to visit the Smithfield Fire Station. Smithfield has a volunteer fire department. Fire Chief Ken Salley told us about the trucks and equipment that the fire fighters use when they go to fires. They have three big red fire trucks. The trucks were Engine #1Engine #2 and Engine#3. The fire department was formed in 1950 with 39 members. They started meeting in the Grange Hall but they soon bought land in the village to build a place of their own. There is no fire pole in the building. We are glad that Smithfield has its own fire department so they can put out our fires. |
