A Tour of Mercer and Smithfield (Project Description and Integration of the Maine Learning Results) |

This unit is a comprehensive, multimedia program designed to connect Mercer and Smithfield's past with its present. The Unit is aligned with the four interdisciplinary areas identified in the Common Core: Personal and Global Stewardship, Communication, Reasoning and Problem Solving, and The Human Record. The Maine Learning Results were integrated thoughout this project with specific content objectives and outcomes. Students were expected to:
The local history bus tours as documented on these web pages demonstrate one major aspect of this MSAD 54 Curriculum Unit. Following these tours and classroom related activities, the children demonstrated their ability to use the skills and strategies of the writing process using a word processing program called Claris Works. Students made decisions about layout and design when using the web authoring program, Claris Home Page with the assistance of Dorothy Small, MSAD 54 Technology Integration Specialist. Students organized a project night for parents and community members to present the website and other projects in this unit. |
