We visited the Smithfield Village Store. Mrs. Salley is the current owner and was our tour guide. She said back in 1890 they called it the Corner Store. The store was also a stopping place for the Mail Stage Coach. Half the town gathered at the store to collect mail and exchange the news of the times. Click here to learn more about the MAIL WHEEL. |

Mrs. Salley told us that where the rental movies are right now there use to be a dance floor. In the Village Store the thing that squirits out ketchup use to be a ice cream squiriter . The corner store has been owned by other families in the past. It was first built by Sanford Harlow in the 1860s. There is also an apartment above the store. Timmy and his mom live in it now. If you want to buy something at the Smithfield Village store today, it is open 5:30 AM to 10:00 PM every day of the week. It is a friendly place to get some groceries, a meal, or gas. |
