THE ELF OWL

The elf owl is adapted to living in the desert. It can see in the dark. That is important to catch its prey because it's nocturnal. The elf owl eats insects, scorpions, and spiders. One of its enemies is the snake. The elf owl lives in the saguaro cactus in the desert of the southwestern United States and the northern deserts of Mexico. This is what the elf owl looks like. It has big eyes and is the smallest owl in the world. It's five inches to six inches long. It preys on mice, insects, spiders, and other small animals. It lives in the saguaro cactus because it needs to keep cool. We wouldn't want to be that animal. We have never seen a real elf owl.
