The Marti Stevens Learning Center offers alternative educational programs to qualifying, recommended Skowhegan Area High School students. Selection criteria include (but not limited to) potential to complete the program and difficulty with conventional school programs.

The Marti Stevens Learning Center exists for those students who need an educational option other than a traditional one. “One size does not fit all.” A student’s ability to achieve may be affected by a variety of factors, i.e., scheduling problems, parenthood, homelessness, personal or family conflicts, etc. Therefore, the learning experience at MSLC is designed to meet the spectrum of student’s educational and emotional needs. For this experience to be successful for all students, everyone who attends MSLC needs to be committed to our policy. Even though our structure is different from that of a traditional school, it still requires rules and expectations.

Alternative education programs will seek to provide an appropriate academic, social, and vocational experience to aid these young people either to re-enter the regular school system, move into another educational setting, or prepare them for successful employment.

The Marti Stevens Learning Center program, through a variety of means, creates a safe and caring atmosphere where students will:

Develop citizenship and life skills
