English Courses

 

Bits & Pieces - (Independent Study – 1 English Credit):
Instructor: Penny McGovern: Email
This course is an independent study English course. It consists of fifteen lessons which have a Reading and Writing exercise. The lessons introduce various reading and writing styles to the students. For example, the student will be asked to read and then write a narrative copy. Other writing styles include: dialogue, interviews, and letter writing.

 

Consultant English - (1 Credit):
Instructor: Rean McGinley - Email
This is a taught course which focuses on writing tasks encountered in everyday life. The program deals with units consisting of some of the following topics: filling the blanks, writing for information, getting a job and writing on the job.

 

English – (1 English Credit):
Instructor: Jack Reynolds - Email
This course focuses on vocabulary and reading development/comprehension. This course also includes: grammar, syntax and essays.

 

Mostly Short Stories – (1 English Credit):
Instructor: Jack Reynolds - Email

This is an independent study course based on 50 great short stories. Each lesson examines a different element of the structure of short stories and contains various questions to answer over each story. For advanced/interested students

 

Children's Literature – (1 English Credit):
Instructor: Rean McGinley - Email

This course carries one full English credit. The activities include analysis, summarizing, reading comprehension, research, creative writing, vocabulary, art work, composing posters, and many others. But the course uses children’s literature, including picture books, novels, manga, poetry, cartoons and film, to study the different genres.
