General Information:  Founded in 1814 as Bloomfield Academy, Skowhegan Area High School is a grade 9 through 12 public high school serving the communities of Skowhegan, Cornville, Canaan, Norridgewock, Smithfield and Mercer.  Located in central Maine along the Kennebec River.Skowhegan Area High School is the largest school in the region with an approximate enrollment of 950.  Skowhegan Area High School is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.  Paper production, wood harvesting, and shoe manufacturing are the primary sources of employment with farming and dairy production also prevalent.
 

Graduation Requirements for the Class of 2006: 
       All students must complete 20 Carnegie units of credit.
English - 4 credits
Social Studies - 3 credits
       (1 Geography/Word Studies, 1 US History, 1 Government)

Method of Computing GPA:  Courses are graded on a numeric scale from 1 to 100.  Courses are weighted according to the credit value.  Beginning in September of 2002, weighted grading is applied to all Honors and Advanced Placement courses.  The weighting factor is a 5% addition to the earned grade.  Weighted grading is used only for determining GPA for class standing.  Quarterly report cards will indicate the actual grades earned.
 
Core Curriculum:  Honors, College Preparatory, College Options, Consultant Model, and Adaptive levels of courses are offered.  Advanced Placement courses are offered in English IV, Calculus, Statistics, US Government, US History, French, and Spanish
