I want to empower and develop resiliency in students. I want
each student to complete high school with a sense of worth and
confidence, growing every day towards his or her future hopes
and dreams.
One thing that I care about deeply is how drugs and alcohol impact
students and their families. At Skowhegan Area High School, I
provide education and support through the Chemical Health Education
Program.
This program provides prevention, education,
and support for students and their families about issues surrounding
substance abuse and social issues.
Prevention:
I provide information to offer more choices for a healthy
and successful high school experience through the teen issues
program.
I encourage a sense of community by being involved with
district children through the peer helper program.
Education
I teach students the dynamics of chemical use, abuse, and
dependence.
I teach students about the impact of substance abuse on
an individual and the family.
Support
I provide students with the opportunity to develop coping
skills, problem solving skills, and the recognition, understanding,
and expression of feelings.
I work to improve self-worth by helping students feel better
about themselves, assert their personal power and autonomy, and
feel validated. Sometimes there is not nearly enough recognition
for the personal achievements of an individual student.
