This stream study reflects the State of Maine Learning
Results by demonstrating standard strands in the categories of
Skills and Traits of Scientific Inquiry where students need to
methodically plan, conduct, analyze data from, and communicate
results of in-depth scientific investigations including experiments
guided by a testable hypothesis, and in the strand of Systems where
students apply an understanding of systems to explain and analyze
man-made and natural phenomena in addition the Science, Technology,
and Society strand where students describe the role of science
and technology in creating and solving contemporary issues and
challenges.
As rural community students or possibly like many school communities,
students are generally thought of as passive recipients of knowledge,
the challenge for students is to make the connection between
learning in the classroom out of book or labs to apply these
knowledge’s and skills to their real world to identify
the connections to science in which the student will organize
and structure the learning based on the data that is collected,
by developing collaborative relationships with adults in the
community, students will become part of solutions for their community.
The communicating ideas, organizing the data and developing meaningful
scientific relationships between the data and economic development
will be a challenge. |
