Mr. Nutting has taught all levels of students from kindergarten to adult education, including stints at Cornell University, Colby College, and the University of Maine at Farmington. He has a doctorate in German literature from the University of California, Berkeley, but finds teaching French in Skowhegan to be especially satisfying, given its proximity to Québec and the number of students in the school district who have French family backgrounds. He helped write the Maine Learning Results for Modern & Classical Languages and currently serves on an advisory committee to the Commissioner of Education that is developing strategies for their implementation in Maine’s schools. For the past 14 years, he has been the director of the Deutsche Woche in Bar Harbor, an immersion program for German teachers held at the College of the Atlantic.
