Dachau will be the most sobering part of the trip. You can read about the history of the concentration camp itself, but you will see a much different camp today. The pictures inside the museum are grim but a reminder that it was a reality (and unfortunately, many horrors still continue to happen in various countries throughout the world).

One of the main gates states: Arbeit Macht Frei (Work makes you free). Guard towers, barbed wire, and fences still remain, as well as the footprints of dozens of former overcrowded prisoners' barracks. There are memorial gardens and places of reflection. .
