Luzern has been the favorite and often the most magical stop on our trip.

A wooden bridge built in 1333 (and rebuilt after a 1993 fire) is a focal point in the heart of the city. However, what makes Luzerne breathtaking is the 30-mile lake, the snow-covered Alps that ring the lake, the quaint shops and stores, the winding, cobblestone streets, and the centuries-old buildings. Buty a Swiis watch or a swiss knife. There are plentiful restaurants, time to shop, time to sit at the water's edge, and visit the Lion's Monument to see the lion carved into the side of a cliff. A short walk from the town center is a trail that leads to one of the town walls overlooking the city. The view is magnificient. Listen to your footfalls on the wooden bridge spanning the river flowing out of the lake. Visit several churches and enjoy the beauty of the architecture and the solitude.

Luzern is a great respite in the middle of a long week. We have traveled at this point from Heidelberg to München (via Rothenburg), to Neuschwanstein and on to Luzern. It is also a relaxing day before the TGV train ride through the French countryside to Paris.
