The Study of Life Expectations

By the end of the chapter you should have the following completed:

1. Have the following words written down and defined in your notebook.

Group C: Scientific method, observation, hypothesis, data, experiment, control, variable, conclusion, technology

2. All sections of the reading should be read with the goal of being able to discuss/explain the information contained in them.
3. Have the following review questions completely answered in your notebook:

Group 1- What is biology and features of living things.

1. How does a dairy farmer use biology?
2. Give an example of adaptation not used in your reading.
3. Name the eight features of living things.
4. Why is cellular respiration necessary to living things?

Group 2- Measuring in Biology

1. What is length?
2. What are the prefixes used in the metric system and what do they mean?
3. How many mm are in 7 hm?
4. What is weight?
5. What are two differences between mass and weight?
6. Copy this chart in your notebook and fill in the missing information.

Group 3- Scientific method

1. What is a variable in an experiment?
2. Why do experiments have to have control groups?
3. Name 5 steps in the scientific method in order.
4. Why is a theory more accepted than a hypothesis?

4. Labs to be handed in with discussion questions written out and answered in complete sentences:

5. Know how to convert from one unit to another in the metric system using a leapfrog
6. Know all material covered in class notes.

Extra Credit: To be passed in before the test is taken. You must have all your homework turned in on time to be able to try the first extra credit activity

Activity 1: Look at the Sunday newspaper for jobs you think use biology. Cut out the ads and find out more information on how the job uses biology. You may have to do some research in the library or call the place that posted the job. Be polite and most people will be more than willing to help. Make a poster of the jobs and how they use biology. You must have at least 6 different job ads.(maximum 5 pts on test)

Activity 2: Do the online review test for the first test and submit it to me for credit. If you get an 80 or better on the test, you will get 2 points on your first test. To access the review test, follow the link below:
