There is no course in the SAHS course description book that teaches you the strategies you need to use to learn. SAHS has made learning how to learn a focus in all subjects. This is fantastic for you. You do not have to figure it out for yourself. As we journey through the school year, I will be introducing various strategies that you should use to ensure your success in any course you take. These strategies are not just for biology. They can be used in any course you take during high school or after. The great thing about the literacy tools is they allow you to learn even if your teacher is not present. You can use them in study hall or at home when you are doing your homework. You just need to use them to the best of your ability. It takes 21 days to make a habit. If you can focus on effectively using a strategy for 21 days you will make it habit that will make learning easier in any course you choose to take. The literacy strategies listed below are like the wrenches, screwdrivers and socket sets you would keep in a toolbox. If you choose never to open your toolbox, it doesn't matter how many fancy wrenches you have inside, you will never be able to fix that leaky faucet. If you choose never to use any of the strategies listed below, you may be passing up the chance to make learning much easier for yourself and potentially fix the thing that is keeping you from academic success. Each strategy page has an introduction to the strategy as well as blank forms. You will need Adobe Reader to view and print the documents. It is free and can be downloaded by clicking the link above.
