For the Parents

The middle school child is very different from any other developmental phase. Even if your child has never had trouble in school before, the multitude of physical, emotional and social changes they will go through is sure to have an impact on their lives at home and at school.

In order to promote good habits for school, we suggest the following:

Create a space they can study undisturbed, but not without your supervision.

If they are using a computer, make sure you can see that they are not instant messaging.

They need to spend 1 hour doing homework each night. (same place, same time)

Teach them that homework means more than "getting done what is due tomorrow." (studying, reviewing notes, organizing themselves, reading is all part of it.)

Do not accept they "got it done at school." If they could get it done at school, we wouldn't suggest the hour.

Always call us when your intuition says, "hmmm, that doesn't make sense..."

Check powergrade often. You can see their grades anytime.

Have them show you studywiz - this is where all their homework is listed and announcements are posted for all. (these are the online homework pages)
