Introduction - The reason I, and my classmates, are building these sites is to research what is going on the river. We are soon going to be undertaking a project to put in a kayaking park and need to find out more about the area before it is put to rest so more tourists will come here. So far, we don't have a lot, but we are working on the Run of the River project constantly. | ![]() |
| Updates: We visited the Skowhegan Dam just recently. We found out that there are no fish ladders (A fish ladder is a machine that raises fish from one side of a dam and onto the other so they have a safe breeding area) at the dam. The water is transported into a large water chamber. The cascades of water rush into the wheels of the turbines that charge an electrical current into a transformer attached to powerline after powerline, giving the town complete power. Instead of fish ladders, the dam has paths for eels so they can get up-river to a safe breeding ground. | Biodiversity - Biodiversity is when animals and creatures or plants an bioforms live together in one environment. Their abilities and different skills help each other survive. The way the river works within a community like ours is another example of biodiversity. |
Updates: We have recently started doing science labs. So far we have worked with scales and learning the scientific process. We have begun experiments on how plants are effected by stress. There will be stressors on the trees and plants that are growing along the river now when the park is developed. |
