Our school recently had a Mix It Up day and it was lots of fun. As
a Civil Rights Team we brainstormed ways to organize the day. Basically, Mix
It Up day is when students sit with students other than their normal group of
friends. We wanted to mix things up by having kids sit with others having common
interests. We decided to make cards indicating the topics and put them on every
table. The topics included reading, dancing, sports (inside and outside), technology,
horse training, and music. The Civil Rights team members greeted the students
after getting their lunch trays and asked that they choose a seat according to
interests indicated on the cards. The team helped guide and encourage students
to participate in this activity so that they would learn more about their classmates. Overall,
this was a great success and people did sit with other students had similar interests.
Our team leaders Ms. Smith and Ms. Richter along with the principal Mr. Krasnavage,
and vice principal, Mr. Mochamer were on duty to help make this all work. They
are on lunch duty every day so they helped us guide kids to the tables. |
