Grades Seven and Eight
Instructional Delivery
(A) Based upon the grade six assessment, identified grade seven students
will have an opportunity to participate in a daily accelerated ER
Language Arts class...aligned with the Maine
Learning Results...offering an advanced, intense curricula which
incorporates/integrates history, literature, problem solving, creative
and formal writing, with the performing arts.
(B) In rare instances, students who have demonstrated a mature interest
in/understanding of social studies will have the opportunity to participate
in a daily ER Social Studies class,
demanding advanced reading skills, higher level thinking skills,
and an independent study design...aligned with the Maine Learning
Results.
(C) Students whose grade six assessment indicates a need for an advanced
math curriculum will have the opportunity to participate in a twice-weekly
ER Math Tutorial...focusing upon number theory, pre-algebra, algebra,
and statistics; ER staff
will monitor the student’s classroom performance and possible
need for expanded math activities.
(D) An accelerated, advanced Eighth Grade ER Language Arts class
will be offered to those students who have performed
successfully in the Seventh Grade ER Language Arts class...as well
as to any students who have been identified through midstream aassessment.
(E) As indicated, in rare instances, students will have the opportunity
to participate in a daily ER Social Studies class.
(F) Identified eighth grade students will have the opportunity to
take high school Algebra I.
(G) According to individual student strengths/needs, as outlined
in their Personal Learning Plan goals, students will receive differentiated
curricula in the regular class room; the ER staff person will work
with seventh and eighth grade class room teachers to develop differentiated
curriculum activities in the areas of science and social studies.
Grades Seven and Eight
Staff Selection/Staff Development
(A) ER staff will fulfill G/T and broader State of Maine certification
requirements...or be working toward endorsement, in an approved
plan.
(B) ER staff will demonstrate a working knowledge of contemporary
G/T educational topics, research data, G/T literature, and recognized
educational procedural practices.
C) ER staff, with the specific support of district administrators
and building principals, will organize a plan(within chronology
of G/T Plan) to provide staff development opportunities for classroom
teachers...to make identification of G/T students and the provision
of differentiated curriculum more effective.
(D) The ER staff person will work with seventh and eighth grade
class room teachers to develop differentiated curriculum activities
in the areas of science and social studies.
Grades Seven and Eight
Program Evaluation
(A) An annual review of progress toward program goals will be initiated.
(B) The goals and outcomes of each student’s Personal Learning
Plan will be reviewed annually...to determine appropriateness of
ongoing participation/required differentiation.
(C) An intensive program evaluation for grades seven and eight
will be documented at a minimum of every four years...
(D) Program evaluation will focus upon short term-long term goals
and outcomes...looking at I. Program Design...
II. Identification...III. Instruction...IV. Management...
V. Program Evaluation...VI. Communication.
Grades Seven and Eight
Program Management
(A) M.S.A.D. #54 will provide an annual budget and staff which
will allow for the fulfillment of its Five Year G/T Plan: (appropriate
staff, philosophy, goals, and activities), allowing the ER Program
to design and implement differentiated curriculum options for identified
seventh and eighth grade students.
(B) The middle school building principals will fulfill their responsibilities,
in combination with the ER staff, classroom teachers, and support
staff, to ensure the specific implementation of ER Program services
for identified seventh and eighth grade students...including workable
schedules and time-space realities.
(C) The ER staff will be included in meetings/decisions by middle
school classroom teachers-building administrators-parents relating
to significant student curricula and psychological-emotional issues...integral
to success of identified students.
(D) The Enrichment Resources Program will develop Personal Learning
Plans for each identified seventh and eighth grade student, specifying
how individual needs will be met.
Grades Seven and Eight
Communication
A) The ER Program will provide ongoing communication of program
services/curricula options/procedures to parents-guardians of seventh
and eighth grade students, including classroom teachers, support
staff, and building principals.
(B) An overview of ER Program services/procedures will be available
for parents-guardians.
(C) A snapshot overview of ER Program services/procedures for Skowhegan
Area Middle School will be included in the middle school parent-guardian/student
handbook.
(D) The middle school building principals, classroom teachers,
and support staff will include ER staff in PET, SAT, IEP, and similar
meetings which impact upon school plans for identified students.
(E) ER staff will provide consistent, defined, systematic communication
with parents of identified students, documenting student performance. |
