LIONS CLUB PEACE POSTER COMPETITION
The Skowhegan Lions Club would like to announce the winner of the local
Lions Club International Peace Poster Competition- Madison
Danforth. The
very talented young artist from Norridgewock moved on in the competition
and also won again, at our District level which included artists from all
over the state of Maine.
Danforth, a student at the Skowhegan Area Middle School has
secured her place to compete against students her age (11-13 years) all over
the world. It was extremely hard this year because the artwork submitted
from her peers was amazing. The rich and powerful symbolism that came across
in Kaytlin Allen’s Poster,
Eben Lenfest’s Poster and Tori Mullin’s Poster could not be denied
by the judges and moved them to emotional states. The incredible visual representations
submitted by Kristin Smart, Peyton Smith, and Caitlyn Young were true depictions
of the power of peace, which was this past years theme for the contest.
Home
schooled students, Olivia Demcheck and Emily Krue worked together to be in
the running. The posters were nothing short of spectacular and were on display
at the Skowhegan Free Public Library in November when the judging took place.
Madison Danforth, along with her proud parents and Enrichment
Art Teacher Kathy Smith, have been invited to join the Skowhegan
Lions Club for an awards dinner at the Heritage House in February. It is
there that Madison will be presented with a couple of checks, one from
our local club, and one from our larger district. District Governor,
Roger Blackstone will serve as the prestigious presenter.
We are cheering her on as her poster heads out across the world
to be judged along with 350,000 other posters from other countries. The Lions
Club International Peace poster competition was developed and continues to
emphasize the importance of world peace to young artists everywhere.
We are
so grateful that we have a community of incredibly talented students that
also recognize this. Ms. Danforth’s
posted will be displayed at the Lions Club District Convention in Maine in
April, and also will be displayed at theSkowhegan Lions Club Booth at the
State Fair grounds in August. Congratulations Madison !
