Summary:
After watching the scene, Visit to Walmart, students interact with media sources
as they research the availability of guns. Different stations are set up in the
classroom with laptops, a local newspaper, a sportsman magazine, and an Uncle
Henrys catalog.
Scenario:
Congratulations Private Investigators, your team has been hired by the top law
enforcement agency in the world to search through the World Wide Web and print
sources to locate firearms in your geographic area. We need to round up
supplies to send them all to the biggest landfill in the world because of a recall
on all existing arms. They could be dangerous to anyone using them, so we need
to act as quickly as possible. Because they are for sale, the owners will need
to be compensated. You will have a budget of 10,000.00 to purchase firearms and
supplies.

- Reader of gun ads (also keeps track of time)
- Recorder of information on a budget spreadsheet (laptop)
- Online researcher (laptop)
- Summarizer-one who creates a final summary for reporting out to whole class

2. Each group receives a card clearly stating the mission. They will have
30 minutes to complete the task.
3. Students look through the materials at their station and give the recorder
the names of the items to purchase and the price of each item.
The online researcher saves each site that offers materials for sale and passes
on the prices to the recorder.
Noteshare would be a perfect program for this task. Each member looking for
information and recording results contribute to a group Notebook shared by the
Summarizer. The researcher could use the meta search features of Noteshare when
conducting online searches. The recorder of information can use the chart plug-in
for recording data collected by the group.
4. After compiling information and the reader reporting out to the group members,
they discuss their findings and together create the summary that will be shared
with the whole class.
