The Los Mockers, a Uruguayan Rock Band Influenced By The Beatles.

Uruguayan rock first began when The Beatles visited Uruguay in the 60s. After that a lot of Uruguayan rock bands started in Montevideo. These bands included the Los Shakers, Los Mockers, and Los Iracundos. Uruguay’s folk music came from African slaves who brought over their dancing and their percussion music. Their music is called Candombe. Candombe is influenced by Afro-Uruguayans from Montevideo, African drumming, European music, and tango. Uruguayans often enjoy the tango, their folk music, and waltz. Juan Manuel Blanes was a Uruguayan painter in the 1800’s. He was known for his dramatic portraying of historical events. Pedro Figari was a painter from Uruguay in the 1900’s who painted about the lifestyle in Montevideo and the countryside. Jose Enrique Rodo, a Uruguayan essayist wrote a book that opposed to a materialistic way of life.
