Uruguay has a fairly
mild climate. However, Argentina occasionally has cold and harsh winds blowing
north into Uruguay. Uruguay's economy survives from their livestock and animal
products, such as wool, hide, and leather. As well as Argentina, Uruguay
declared independence from Spain in 1811. Even though Uruguay gained independence
in 1811, Uruguay didn't become completely independent until 1828. Uruguay
became a country that used tax money to support citizens. In the 1950's and
1960's, Uruguay's government was under control by the military. Uruguay became
a democratic government once again in 1985. A majority of Uruguay's population
is of European ancestry. Only a minority is of African or mixed ancestry.
Spanish is Uruguay's official language, and their official religion is Roman
Catholic. Most Uruguayans live in Uruguay's capital, Montevideo. |
