In Uruguay, the national sport is futbol; or soccer in English. The Uruguayan Olympic Futbol Team has won two Olympic Gold Medals; one in 1924, and one in 1928. In 1950, Uruguay even beat Brazil in the World Cup! Another important sport in Uruguay; rugby, has earned 15th place in their first rugby world cup. As well as rugby and futbol, basketball has risen to be quite popular in Uruguay. The Uruguayan Basketball Team came in 6th place in the first Olympic Games. They have also come in 5th, 3rd, and 8th and a few of the other Olympic Games. So in conclusion, Uruguay is most known for their soccer, rugby, and basketball.
