The Highlands is located in St. Albans on two farms with a total of 250 acres of land and a view of Mt. Katahdin. The Highlands sell 100% grass fed beef, eggs, all natural pork and chicken (free-range, no antibiotics, hormones, preservatives), and cut flowers for weddings and bouquets. Their cattle are only “Highland Cattle.” The Highlands farm calving season is also their harvesting season. The farm is organic, except for the pork. Michael Vermette believes that the animals shouldn’t be forced to eat chemicals. The Highlands also offers reforestation services.

About Highland Cattle

Highland cattle have grazed the Scottish landscape since the sixth century.Highland cattle are the result of the blending of two ancient Asiatic breeds, the ‘Bos Longifrons’ and the ‘Bos Primigenius’. The Longifrons giving them the long horns, and the Primigenius giving them the hairy look. Highland cattle are the oldest registered cattle on earth and they have two layers of fur, so they can stay outside in the winter.
