Peepers Spring Essay contest link
The Elm student essays were written as an assessment
of a classroom study on climate change. Students were
required to make a hypothesis over the question “Is
Spring returning earlier each year?”. The students
used prior knowledge of climate change and informal
observations to make their hypothesis. Students then
studied state collected ice out data from Maine lakes
and air temperature data from Portland to make their
conclusions. Computer generated graphs of the data were
submitted along with the essays. Students were also
asked to suggest further areas of study, possible questions
regarding climate change, and ultimately design an experiment
for future investigation.
