We Cedar Team students at the Skowhegan Area Middle School, developed this website so everyone at schools across the country and world, could share information. Some kids on our Cedar team were involved when we went to the Canaan School so we wanted to share this with everyone! Lindbergh took off from North Island Naval Air Station in San Diego. This is a Navy Base and we wondered how were we going to get permission to have the cranes take off from there. The summer before, Mr Ross was visited by Navy Capt. Larry Burrill. He grew up in Canaan and went to the Canaan Elementary school before going to Maine Maritime Academy. Wonder who is sitting in Capt. Burrill's old seat at the Canaan Elementary school today? Capt Burrill joined the team and got the Navy's permission for the cranes to take off from the same field as Charles Lindbergh. Mr. Bill Allen of San Diego flew the cranes out of North Island after he and Capt. Burrill added some neat mementos to the suitcase.
