The cranes stayed in San Diego for a year while the folks in Maine tried to figure out how to move them. During that time a sad thing happened. Mr. Cianchette, the first person to fly the cranes, was killed in a plane crash. Governor King talked about Mr. Cianchette in his Annual address this year. He said, "Chuck represented the best of Maine. Positive and enthusuastic; creative and deeply caring about his family and neighbors throughout the state." Mr. Ross said the thing that was most impressive about Chuck was how he treated everybody with dignity and respect. Plus, he was the "king of can do"! He helped people think they could achieve anything they put their mind to. Mr Ross and Mr Gilbert really wanted to get the cranes home now.
