By Bob Booth The Highway Department is responsible for many things that make a community strong. The Highway Department deals mainly with the maintaining of roads and bridges of a town.
The road commissioner of Skowhegan, Greg Dore, says "The most important part of my job is the maintaining of the roads. Why, because transportation of goods make the businesses work." The Highway Department deals with ice removal, snowplowing, and winter storm clean up. They also deal with downed trees. This can be difficult because of electric wires. If a tree goes down and takes wires with it, it is hazerdous. But other wise it is easy and an advantage for the town because all the wood goes to the recreation department (after being processed of course.) |
