Butch Asselin is the chief of police in Skowhegan. He chose to be a police officer because he wanted to give something back to the community. He had the desire in college to help people. He likes his job because every day is different; no two days are the same for Butch. He looks forward to coming in to work because the danger gives him a rush. He has a degree in criminal justice and attended the police academy. He has been involved in service training management, public speaking, and interviews. He has to have so many hours a year in management and training or he could lose his certification and his job. He wears two stars. One means chief; another star means certified. All he has ever done revolves around law enforcement. He has never been shot at , nor has he ever had to shoot anyone. His duties are to maintain budgets, order supplies, take care of payroll, write memos, see that investigations are complete, make sure officers maintain professionalism, handle complaints, and see that officers are trained correctly. One call is as important as another. His officers must respond to all calls equally. He gets night calls, which he doesn't like. In the twenty years he has worked there, he can only remember two homicides. The officers in Skowhegan are only on murder cases for back up, and to assist. State Police handle serious cases involving murder. Butch cannot be around on holidays and he believes that this contributed to his divorce . He doesn't get to see his family very often and he feels bad when his daughter's friends don't like police officers. That is hard on both of them. The thing he likes most about his job is that it is not routine. He gets to make a difference in peoples lives. He feels good about giving something back to the community. We are all very lucky to have a dedicated man like Butch for police chief in our town!!!! The town assessor must go to newly built houses to check the kind of roof, siding, how many bedrooms and bathrooms there are and to see how much the house is worth. Leisa takes the information and enters all of it into her computer. Technology has made her job a lot easier over the years. Instead of keeping track of everything by records and drawing by hand she can have information in the computer and use her mouse to sketch pictures. She takes the money from the taxes and divides it so she can pay Skowhegan's share. The thing Leisa likes most about her job is serving people, because she likes working with the public. She enjoys her job so much there isn't anything she likes least. Leisa says her job is very interesting and a challenge because nothing ever stays the same.
