Benjamin Banneker

 

Benjamin Banneker was born in 1731 in Elicot,Maryland. As he grew older he became interested in math and science. His grandmother taught him to read,write and do sums.His family was different. He had a free mother and a slave father.Even though he had a slave father he was always considered free.

As he became an adult ,he only had an eighth grade education.Later he predicted the solar eclipse of 1789. After coming back from a trip from Washington D.C. he drew a blueprint of Washington D.C. from memory. He also wrote a book about the planets and the weather. He made the first all wooden clock.He became a mathematician,a surveyor,a farmer, and an astronomer.

Benjamin Banneker died of natural causes in 1806. People still remember him for his fine brain and his wooden clocks. Benjamin Banneker was buried in Washington D.C. He will be remembered for years to come.
