Betsy E. Ross

Betsy Elizabeth Ross was born on January 1, 1752. Betsy had no sisters or brothers, but she did have a lot of friends. Betsy went to school in Philadelphia. She worked at home with her mother. She was 84 when she died on January 30th, the same month she was born. Betsy Ross was famous because she was the first one to make the U.S.A. flag .She worked with her mother at 17, and she also accomplished the flag when she was 32.

Her goals were that she wanted to finish the flag before she turned an old age. The people that signed the Declaration of Independence asked Betsy Ross to make the flag. Ross did not like the first flag so she made another one . The men wanted a 6 pointed star, but she wanted a 5 pointed star so they agreed to it . She was known as the first skillful women by the Continental Congress in Carpenters Hall in 1774. She lived with her mother and father in Philadelphia.

Betsy Ross had 7 daughters . Two of her daughters came from Ashburn and the other five came from Claypool. She had three husbands . The first one just died . The second one got captured by the British . The third one died because of cancer. Betsy is still known in the U.S.A. for her part in America's history.
