Do you know why George Washington is so famous? In 1749 George became a surveyor. When George and Lawrence came back from their surveying trip Lawrence died of smallpox on July 26,1752. After Lawrence died George married Martha Washington. George was a leader French and Indian War and the Revolution War. On December 19,1777 Commander George and his Army moved to Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. Valley Forge is located on the Shekel River about 20 miles from Philadelphia.12,000 men remained at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. Many of the soldiers died of starvation and cold. The army did not give supplies and the countryside didn't have food or shelter. More than 6,000 men became ill and was not able to fight. The army left their winter quarters in June 19,1778. The army had been at their winter quarters for 6 months.George was almost shot several times in the French and Indian War. He also fought in the Revolutionary War and brought his army to victory. After the war was over he was elected our first President. After his term of 4 years he was reelected for President again. George was our President for eight years.

One year later on December 14,1799 George died of an unknown illness. He was 67 years old when he died. One of his famous sayings is: " First in war, first in peace, and first in the heart of his countrymen". George Washington is considered the father of our country, because he made our country strong.
