James Otis

 

 

James Otis was born in 1725 in West Barnstable, Massachusetts. He graduated from Harvard. He wanted to study literature. He was a lawyer. When he was a young man he had to move to Boston. James married in 1755 when he was 30. He protested against the English Stamp Act.

Do you what to know what the Stamp Act is? It was when England made us pay taxes on paper. James Otis was protesting against them. We thought we should have paper,free paper. We burned papers to show them we would pay no taxes. James Otis was a good man. He predicted that he would die by lightening. On May 23,1783 it happened. He died by a lightening strike. He also had a head wound from a battle.James Otis was a man who will be remembered for standing up for his rights and the rights of his fellow citizens
