John Adams was an important person in America's history. His parents were John and Susanna Adams. They moved from England. John was born in Braintree, Massachusetts. He lived in Braintree, Mass., which was changed to Quincy in 1742. Adams had no brothers or sisters. Instead he had a famous cousin named Samuel Adams, another famous person in history. Since a boy, John farmed. When he was young he attended private school. Adams was a very smart man. He attended Harvard College at the age of 16. He met his wife Abigail in Harvard. John did not want to have kids, but they had five. Adams ran against our nation's first president, George Washington. He lost, but became vice president for him. John was elected our nation's second president. He was the 47th signer of the Declaration of Independence. Adams spent his life fighting for freedom and liberty. He died fifty years after the first Independence Day. We will remember him forever. |
