Thomas Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson was very important to the growth of America. It all started when he was born on April 13,1743, in Albemarle County, Virginia.Thomas Jefferson's father was Peter Jefferson. Peter served as a surveyor, sheriff, colonel of militia, and a member of The House of Burgesses. His mother was Jane Randolph who came from one of the oldest families in Virginia. His wife was Martha Skelton, daughter of John Wayles. She lived near Williamsburg and married Thomas on October 19,1772.

Many things happened in the life of Thomas Jefferson. In 1769 he became a member of The House of Burgesses. In 1775 he became a member of Continental Congress. Thomas Jefferson was appointed to the committee to draw up a Declaration of Independence; the committee chose Thomas Jefferson to write the declaration. In 1801 he became the 3rd president of the United States. He arranged the Louisiana Purchase from France during his presidency in 1803. Thomas Jefferson was also famous because he invented many things like the polygraph. The polygraph was a lie detector. Thomas Jefferson was also a diplomat, an architect, a scientist, and inventor. He was tall and rather awkward looking, sandy haired, and had freckles. A very important event in Thomas's life was when he went to Europe with his two daughters Patsy ( Martha) and Polly (Maria). Lots of people knew Thomas. He was always traveling to and from America, England, and Europe. The committee was always asking him to do something like write the declaration or go to Paris to negotiate treaties of commerce with European countries.Thomas Jefferson was a very heroic American because he did so many things to improve America
