Introduction

 You and your family have decided to get to know your own state and the many things it has to offer. You will be taking a two week trip and will need to plan the trip so that you get to know northern, central and southern Maine. You will be expected to 'map out' your trip complete with distance to drive each day, basic living expenses, and entertainment expenses. Since you will be absent from school, you will be expected to present your trip to the class upon your return. Your teacher expects to hear about famous people, historical events and places, products and geographical details from all areas of Maine. You will be expected to explain why it is worth any family's time to spend their vacation in their own state of Maine. Outline maps, research aids, and a budget spreadsheet are provided as a way of recording some of your research and learning about Maine.

The Task

  • Complete all research aids and activities before planning your trip
  • Plan a two week trip that includes visits to historical areas, the state capital, the State of Maine Museum, and that includes visits to Northern, Central and Southern areas ..,
  • Be able to explain why your group chose the activities and how they decided on an itinerary. Be sure to tell us during what season you will take your vacation in.
  • Create a Slideshow Presentation with appropriate clipart (from the WWW) and bulleted information that helps you share your trip with the class. You may use as many slides as needed to tell your story but you may not go over fifteen slides.
  • Be sure that every member of the group has input and is happy with the itinerary;
  • Be sure to include why your group feels a visit to Maine can be fun and worthwhile;

Use this planner and a map to decide what it the best route to visit the places your group wished to visit in the most organized way. Be sure to mention anything special about the economy of the area. (For instance, will you try lobster, blueberries, or potatoes? Will you enjoy the activity of Freeport or any other town that enjoys the company of many tourists?)

"Take" Your Trip

As you create your presentation you will be taking your trip. You will 'recreate' your vacation using presentation software available to you. You could consider creating a slide to share each day but also may want to combine a couple days into one slide to save time and work. Use the '14-Day Planner you completed as your guide when designing your slides. Be sure there is enough information on each slide to help you present your trip to the audience, but do not tell it all on a slide. Keep your slides simple and easy to read (Bullets are a great way to help prompt you when speaking.)

Present Your Trip

Public speaking takes practice and organization. Your group should take the time to practice who will say what and how they will say it as you move through your slides. Your teacher will be able to tell how well you researched Maine by how well you present your trip to the audience and how well you answer any questions.
