COVID-19 Update: CES, SAHS, SAMS, BES

Let me begin by apologizing for not providing an update yesterday. There were several cases that were identified on Sunday and Monday. Below is a cumulative update.

I’m writing this evening to let you know that the district was informed of nine additional cases of Covid-19 over the past three days; one case was from Canaan Elementary School, one case was from Skowhegan Area High School, two cases from Skowhegan Area Middle School, and five cases from Bloomfield Elementary School.

Nursing staff and administration worked to determine that 41 individuals were close contacts and therefore were required to quarantine from school. 


COVID-19 Update: MES, MCSS, BES, SAMS

I’m writing this afternoon to let you know that the district had nine additional cases of Covid-19 today; one case at Mill Stream Elementary School, two cases at Margaret Chase Elementary School, two cases at Bloomfield Elementary School, and four cases at Skowhegan Area Middle School. These nine new cases appear to again be a result of contact that occurred outside of school.

Nursing staff and administration worked throughout the day to determine close contacts. As a result of today’s cases 31 additional individuals have been asked to quarantine from school. At this time there is no recommendation that we take additional actions beyond those described above.


COVID-19 Update: BES, CES, SAHS

I’m writing this evening to let you know that the district has had four cases of Covid-19 today; one case was at Bloomfield Elementary School, One case at Canaan Elementary School, and two cases at Skowhegan Area High School.

Nursing staff worked through the day today to follow-up with all close contacts associated with these new positive cases. Individuals identified as needing to quarantine from school have been contacted. A total of 15 individuals were asked to quarantine as a result of these four positive cases.


COVID-19 Update: CES, MCSS, SAMS, SAHS

I am writing to you this evening to share that the district was informed of 7 additional cases of COVID-19 today; one case at Canaan Elementary School, one case at Margaret Chase Smith School, two cases at Skowhegan Area Middle School, and three cases at Skowhegan Area High School.

Our nursing staff and administration continue to connect with the CDC on our new cases and work throughout the day to complete contact tracing. They communicated with the families of the students who were close contacts and answered any questions they might have. In all, these 7 cases resulted in 18 individuals needing to quarantine. Seven students avoided the need to quarantine due to taking part in the pooled testing program.

I am writing to you this evening to share that the district was informed of 7 additional cases of COVID-19 between Friday and today; one case at Canaan Elementary School, one case at Bloomfield Elementary School, one case at Margaret Chase Smith School, one case at Mill Stream Elementary School, one cases at North Elementary School, and two cases at Skowhegan Area High School.

Our nursing staff and administration continue to connect with the CDC on our new cases and work throughout the days and evenings to complete contact tracing. They work very hard to communicate with the families of the students who were close contacts and answer any questions they might have. In all, these 7 cases resulted in 50 individuals needing to quarantine.


Pooled Testing and COVID-19 Update

I am writing to you this evening to share that the district was informed of four additional cases of Covid-19. These cases impacted students and/or staff at Margaret Chase Smith School, North Elementary School, and the Skowhegan Area High School and Middle School.

Nursing staff and administration worked throughout the day to connect with the CDC, and complete contact tracing. They communicated with the families of the students who were close contacts. In all, the 4 cases resulted in 16 individuals needing to quarantine.


Superintendent Recommendation: 10/21 Review of Universal Masking

At the MSAD 54 School Board Meeting of 8/12/21 I recommended the board require the use of masks in school for everyone in school, regardless of vaccination. The Board supported this recommendation and committed to reviewing the decision monthly throughout the year. Below is a summary of why the recommendation stands and the key items that would need to change for that recommendation to be adjusted.
