COVID-19 Update: MCSS & SAHS

I’m writing this evening to let you know that the district was informed of two additional cases of COVID-19 today; one case was at Margaret Chase Smith School, and one case at Skowhegan Area High School. These two new cases were again a result of contact that occurred outside of school.

Nursing staff worked through the day to follow-up with all close contacts associated with these new positive cases. Individuals identified as needing to quarantine from school have been contacted. A total of 14 individuals were asked to quarantine as a result of these two positive cases.

COVID-19 Update: BES & NES

I’m writing this afternoon to let you know that the district was informed of two additional cases of COVID-19 today; one case was at Bloomfield Elementary School, and one case at North Elementary School. These two new cases were again a result of contact that occurred outside of school.

Nursing staff worked with our families and as a result of people doing a great job following the protocols and no exposure outside of school, no students or staff have had to quarantine as a result of these most recent positive cases. Maine CDC did reach out this afternoon to inform the district that Bloomfield Elementary School is now in “Outbreak status” as a result of it now having 3 positive cases within a 14-day window. Based on the cases and information, there was no recommendation to quarantine a class or close the building at this time. We will continue to monitor the situation and will reach out should the recommendations change or additional cases arise.

COVID-19 Update: CES, MSES, and SAMS

I’m writing this evening to let you know that the district has had four cases of COVID-19 over the past three days; one case was at Canaan Elementary School, two cases at Mill Stream Elementary School, and one case at the Skowhegan Area Middle School. These new cases were again believed to be a result of contact that occurred outside of school.

Nursing staff worked over the weekend and through this evening to follow-up with all close contacts associated with these new positive cases. Individuals identified as needing to quarantine from school have been contacted. A total of a total of 39 individuals were asked to quarantine as a result of these four positive cases.

COVID-19 Update: BES & SAHS

I’m writing you this evening to let you know that we have had two additional cases of COVID-19 in the district. One case was at Bloomfield Elementary School, and one at Skowhegan Area High School. Both of these new cases were a result of unmasked contact outside of school.

Today district nurses and administrators again worked with Maine CDC to verify contacts on these cases and talk through situations and questions. Staff are working very hard to limit those students having to quarantine in each separate case. All individuals identified as needing to quarantine from school as a result of these most recent cases have been contacted; a total of 28 individuals were asked to quarantine, most of which were a result of close contacts on the bus.

COVID-19 Update: MSES & SAHS

I’m writing you this evening to let you know that we have had three additional cases of COVID-19 in the district. One case was at Mill Stream Elementary School, and two cases were at Skowhegan Area High School.

Today district nurses worked with administration and Maine CDC to verify contacts on these cases. All individuals identified as needing to quarantine from school as a result of these most recent cases have been contacted; a total of 27 individuals were asked to quarantine.

To date, the district has had 45 students quarantine as a result of 10 positive cases. All of the cases we’ve reported thus far have been in unvaccinated individuals. Although quarantine numbers have been substantially reduced by the measures we have in place, there has been a significant impact as a result of close-contacts outside of school, including extracurricular activities.

I’m writing you this evening to let you know that today we identified four additional cases of COVID-19 in the district. One case was at the Mill Stream Elementary School, and three cases were at the Skowhegan Area High School.

District nursing staff are currently reviewing quarantine numbers and will again be following up with Maine CDC for confirmation tomorrow, but at this time it appears that 12 students were close contacts and will have to quarantine.

COVID-19 Update: 2021-22 School Year

I’m writing you this evening to let you know that we have had our first positive case in school, at Mill Stream Elementary School. Our nursing staff worked to follow updated quarantine protocols and communicated with Maine CDC. Because of the early nature of the case and the protocols in place, only one individual was required to quarantine as a result of this school exposure.
